Blog 8: Midterm reflection

Since this semester has begun there has been a lot of interesting things that has been covered. Whether it was in our books, blogs or even the assignments that was due, all of them has captured my attention. But I think that the most interesting topic of them all is in the book chapter 7; Reproductive Tract Infections. I found this topic interesting because this chapter featured HIV/AIDS and now that is a common disease that is around. Millions of Americans have been infected with the virus and some of them never knew they had the virus. This just keep giving me insights on STDs and the possible medications that is around to help the person maybe get rid of the disease. Having a disease is something that is very serious and many never seem to realize the importance of protecting themselves until that time comes when they are infected with a disease or a close love one has a disease. Chapter 7 also tells how of the many diseases that can a person can be infected by when having unprotected sex. STDs is just a topic that seems to have my interest. I am also interested in pregnancy and childbirth, but I am not as interested in that topic now. All the information is beneficial.

Michelle,

The topic of HIV/AIDS has also been one of the most captivating topics, thus far, for me this semester. But, despite the alarming rate of transmission of the disease, there are individuals who still fail to take precautionary measures to practice safe sex. I wonder, what will it take?

HIV/AIDS is becoming a more interesting subject everyday. I see that education of the disease is helping the cause of prevention. However we have along way to go before we beat this disease. High school students are beginning to realize they must practice safe sex. My eighteen year old son tells me of the assemblies at school about education for young adults. It is a project that we are going to need to continue to preach safe sex for a long time.

I also liked the chapters dealing with STD’s. I believe that it is important for America to be aware of STD’s. Whether it be teaching the symptoms, prognosis, contraction, etc. The only way we can help people is to teach those who are uneducated about STD’s and the severity of them. Good reflection on the first part of the semester.
