My first experience with my menstrual cycle was a surprise to me. I was not ready for that. My mother did not have time to tell me what a menstrual cycle was. One evening I went to the restroom and I cleaned myself to see there was blood on the tissue. I was wondering what is going on with me. I screamed into the other room to my mother to ask her what was happening to me. I was trying to have a clear understanding of what was happening with my body. So I guess I can say I had the feeling of fear. I was not able to stay a kid like the rest of my peers. I kind of grew up faster than what I was suppose to. All of my other friends were still able to enjoy their child hood, rather than having to worry about being a lady. I was afraid of the change but I now I am use to it. Now I want it to end.

I think your response is probably similar to a lot of young ladies. I was surprised to read in our textbook that girls are starting to menstruate at 12 - 13 years old. I hope that your Mom was able to talk to you and help you understand the changes that were occuring so you did not have to be afraid. It sounds like you have a grasp on it now.

P.S. I will happy to see it go as well!

I agree with you on the wanting it to end part. I had a lot of friends who started when were in the fourth grade! It seems like girls are growing faster nowadays. I started a little later than my friends, so I was more comfortable because I had my grandmother, mother, and friends there for me when it happened.

My experience was similar, but I didn’t tell anyone. I thought maybe I had an accident or something. So interesting how the body works. I wonder what triggers inside of you to let your body know that it is time to start menstruating.

I enjoyed reading your post. Also, I would like to say when I got my first period it was a shock to me as well. During this time, I was living with my grandmother and she didn't explain t me that I will be getting a menstrual cycle. One day I was playing outside and thats when I discovered having my first period.
