Yes, I do feel prenatal testing should be given to all pregnant women. I feel that the women should have this testing done is because you never know what could be wrong with the child you are carrying in your stomach. The women should have test done to make sure their child does not Down Syndrome, make sure the umbilical cord is not in the way of harming the child in the womb. Having certain test done while a woman is pregnant gives her head up of the health of her unborn child. You never what type of illness or diseases your child can be exposed to if the woman doesn't get her and the child tested. Being tested is the best way for you to be aware of your health and your child' s health. If no one takes better care of you and your child's health then no one will.

Michelle, I can see where you are coming from. I do agree with the fact that you should take the best care of your unborn child. Having said that I think that you should be able to choose which tests are preformed. Some of the tests are not very accurate and could make people worry and ponder about things that are not 100% exact. Again people have to do whatever is best for them.
Michelle,
I too agree that routine testing should be performed. However, it should be a choice and women should be educated about the tests being performed and not be given unrealistic expectations. Although you may learn that the child you are carrying has Down's syndrome, there is not anything medically that can be done to reverse the disease. Additionally, one could choose to have an abortion based on test results that may or may not be accurate or worse endure undue stress that can also be harmful to the unborn child. We, as future healthcare educators, should teach women the pros and cons of such testing allow them to make their own decision regarding which prenatal testing they choose to have performed.
Hi Michelle,
I agreed with you about women should be tested for birth defects and fetal abnormalities. I do have to say after learning more about the tests that or giving to detect abnormalities could cause a miscarriage, I began to have a change of mind. I can't take the risk of losing my child. Furthermore, if God allows me to have more children in the future, I will put my trust in him and know everthing will be alright.
